SPATIAL ANALYSIS
This image represents the range of predators in King County. There is a 400 foot buffer around the roadways, railroads, power lines, and clear cuts. This is to show that predators tend to stay away from high traffic areas. Prior to creating the buffer, there was 5,602.213 acres of Evergreen Forest Land as well as 2,648.58 acres of Mixed Forest Land. Once the buffers were put into place, the reduced acres of land equaled 1,956.057 acres of Evergreen Forest Land and 713.919 acres of Mixed Forest Land.
This image displays a map that represents how close 12 cats would roam to a Bird Conservation Area in Albany, New York. In order to have several cats fall within a buffer, I first created a buffer of 3000 feet. Since no cat fell within this buffer, I then created a second buffer of 6000 feet. After the second buffer was created, three cats fell into the 6000 foot range. However, it was still shown that these cats did not wander far from their home.
This image displays the difference in movement between a house cat (Orion) and a feral cat (Tiger). Although it appears that Orion left his home quite often, he stayed within the residential area; never traveling too far away from his home. Tiger, on the other hand, tended to not only roam within the residential area but also into croplands and pastures.
